COVID-19 has put a stop to a lot of things in 2020 — unfortunately, child abuse is not one of them. CASA volunteers advocate for the abused and neglected children in the court system, including 190 children in Spencer County in 2019. CASA is on track to serve the same amount for 2020.
Spencer County CASA is a non-profit organization, and because of that, CASA has to raise approximately 70% of its funds after the small amount it receive from the state and the county.
Approximately 300 guests attend — and send donations if they can’t — the annual Spencer County CASA Benefit/Auction fundraiser, held every year on the first Saturday of November to help raise these funds. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the social distancing guidelines still in place, the event will not be able to be held in person this year. Instead, since the organization still needs to raise funds, a virtual auction will be held in its place.
CASA will be using an online auction system called OneCause for the event. The bidding on these great items will open on Wednesday, November 4 and close on Saturday, November 7.
