Nancy Hanks Elementary School found a unique way to celebrate a successful Summer Reading Challenge. At the end of the 2021-22 school year the students were sent home with reading activities to work on over the summer. If they completed the challenge, which was a combination of reading and STEM activities, they were invited to participate in the reward on August 30. Each grade level had a different challenge. Students had to complete 40 of the 50 items to be eligible and 80 students finished!
The reward?
An afternoon game of Quidditch, just like the game played by students in Harry Potter, sans the flying brooms.
For the uninitiated, the game was made popular by Harry Potter and his school chums during his tenure at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While there were no other unusual creatures and probably no actual wizards at Nancy Hanks, the afternoon spent outdoors was surely an enjoyable reprieve for the 80 students who took their summer assignment seriously.
