Robert “Bob” Scherzer, 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
He was born in Troy on February 22, 1938, to Louis and Irene (Gaesser) Scherzer.
Bob was united in marriage on July 15, 1961, to Marjorie Ann Harpenau at St. Marks Catholic Church. They shared 54 wonderful years together before her passing in 2016. He served his country in the Air Force Reserves and was a member of the St. Meinrad American Legion. Bob was a life-long cattle farmer and also worked at Emge Packing Company, retiring after 30 years. He enjoyed working on his farm, his John Deere tractors, flea marketing with Margie, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children, DeeDee Begle (Randy) of Fulda, Dale Scherzer (Stacy) of Haubstadt, Derek Scherzer (Karen) of Lamar and Dana Thompson (Ben) of Mooresville; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife Margie and his siblings, Paul Scherzer and Mary Louise Gogel.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, February 3, at St. Marks Catholic Church with Fr. Julian Peters, OSB as Celebrant and Fr. Denis Robinson, OSB as Concelebrant. Burial followed in St. Marks Cemetery.
