Rockport City Park was filled with cornucopia of sights, sounds, and scents Saturday and Sunday. While jets tore through the skies to the south, Native Americans from far and wide gathered for the 18th annual Bluff City Intertribal Pow Wow. Ceremonial incense and the salivating smell buffalo burgers, frybread and other Native American dishes greeted guests at the park ready to peruse the gathering. Vendors also offered a number of crafts, clothing, books, and other wares.
The event began with a grand entry, led by the Ohio Valley Native Veterans Warrior Society. Eagle staffs accompanied the national and state flags, as well as the colors of participating Native American nations. Dancers in the regalia of their heritage followed close behind, filling the sacred circle with dance.
Throughout the event, traditional music was provided by Host Drum Thunder With The Hands accompanied by Miami Nation Singers.
Several participants set up camp on the grounds to ensure the grounds were full of life each day of the event.
