Two injured in run-off

Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 3:15 p.m. on August 19, at the intersection of US 231 and SR 70 near Chrisney. Both the driver, 27-year-old Kadie Alvey of Rockport, and her passenger and husband, 21-year-old Samuel Alvey of Rockport, were ejected from the vehicle. According to the report, Alvey informed the deputy at the scene that she was southbound on 231 when she swerved to miss a semi truck that had crossed into her lane of travel; she then over-corrected, causing her 2000 Ford Mustang to roll multiple times before traveling down an embankment. Both Alveys were transported to a hospital by EMS for suspected injuries. The driver of the semi, 72-year-old James Gries of Evansville, told police he was turning off 231 from northbound SR 70 when Alvey went in front of him and ran off the roadway. Damages to Alvey’s Mustang were estimated between $5,000-10,000. Spencer County Emergency Ambulance Service and Chrisney Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Rear-end collision

Curtis Parker, 51, of Richland, was stopped at the exit ramp of US 231, waiting to turn onto SR 66, when his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was struck from behind by a 2010 Chevrolet Impala driven by 32-year-old Brittany Ebelhar of Rockport. Ebelhar was cited for using her cell phone while driving after allegedly admitting to the officer that she was distracted by her cell phone when the collision occurred. Ebelhar was checked out by EMS at the scene after complaining of hand and wrist pain; Parker was not injured. Total damages in the August 25, 5:15 p.m. accident were estimated between $5,000-10,000.

Driver charged with OWI after crash

A Boonville man was charged with OWI after a crash that occurred near Gentryville in the early morning of August 13. According to police, 66-year-old Paul Chenault had sideswiped a guardrail and run off the roadway on CR 1250 N. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Chenault allegedly heavily intoxicated and sitting in his wrecked 2005 Ford Ranger. Chenault was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital, where a blood draw showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.288. He was then charged with operating a vehicle with an ACE of 0.15 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Sleepy driver

Chance Windham, 26, of Evansville, was westbound on I-64 near Tennyson when, he later told police, he began to fall asleep and ran off the roadway. He attempted to turn the wheel to get back onto the roadway, but his 2003 Chevrolet rolled in the middle of the roadway before coming to a rest. Warrick County EMS and Fire Personnel responded, but Windham refused medical assessment and services. Damages in the August 20, 5:38 a.m. accident were estimated between $2,500-5,000.

Rear-end collision

Jenna Young, 35, of Rockport, was attempting to turn left off SR 161 onto Base Road in Rockport when her 2013 Ford Explorer was struck from behind by a 2011 Ford Explorer driven by 24-year-old Abigail Jochums of Warrior, AL. Jochums reported she did not notice that Young had stopped to make a turn. Ohio Township Fire Department and Spencer County EMS responded to the scene, but both drivers refused medical assessment. Young’s vehicle was able to be driven from the scene, but Jochum’s sustained major front-end damage and had to be towed. Total damage in the August 23, 11:44 a.m. accident were estimated between $10,000-25,000.
