Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Kincaid, 72, of Rockport, passed away peacefully at her home on June 24, 2026.
A lifelong resident of Rockport, Cindy graduated from South Spencer High School in 1971 before continuing her education at Indiana University.
Gifted with remarkable intelligence and a talent for words, Cindy built a career doing what she loved. She began working at the Hargis family-owned Rockport Journal, where she developed exceptional writing and editing skills. She later continued in the printing industry with the Patmore family at the Rockport Democrat, which evolved into Rockport Printers, where Cindy was an original co-owner. For more than 30 years, she helped countless individuals, organizations, and businesses bring their ideas to life through her writing, editing, and expertise in printing technology.
Later in her career, Cindy worked for the City of Rockport, where she conducted cemetery research and assisted families seeking information about their loved ones and local history. It was work that perfectly reflected her lifelong passion for genealogy, preserving history, and helping others connect with their family’s story.
Cindy’s greatest passion was caring for animals, especially cats. She devoted much of her life to rescuing animals in need, supporting local shelters, and advocating for their protection. Her compassion for animals was matched only by her curiosity about the world around her.
She had a lifelong love of music, mythology, spirituality, genealogy and history. She especially enjoyed researching her family’s past and took great pride in honoring the military service and community contributions of her ancestors. She was a proud member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Although she dreamed of writing a book one day, Cindy’s greatest legacy is the impact she made on those who knew and loved her. To her daughter, she was the most intelligent person she had ever known—a woman whose wisdom, wit, and endless curiosity shaped generations of her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Anne Limp of Savannah, Georgia; her beloved granddaughter, Hannah Jayne Siebold of Indianapolis; her sister, Donna Jill Kincaid of Tomball, Texas; and her stepsons, Jeremy Abshier (Kate) and Ryan Abshier (Melissa).
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude “Zelmo” Abshier; her mother, Dorothy Hargis Kincaid; her father, Earl E. Weniger; and her maternal grandparents, Paul and Clayta (Glackman) Hargis.
Private family arrangements are being made, and there will be no formal visitation or service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue in Evansville, in honor of Cindy’s lifelong devotion to giving animals a safe and loving home.
She leaves behind a quieter world, but one forever made better by her kindness, her wit, and the countless lives—both human and animal—that she touched.
