Mary “Beth” Stein, 73, Jasper

Mary “Beth” Stein, 73, of Jasper, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at her home in Jasper. Beth was born January 19, 1951 in Evansville to Ernest and Barbara (Fischer) Weyer. 

Beth worked as a Licensed Social Worker. She was one of the Founding Mothers of Crisis Connection where she served as Executive Director for 26 years and was the first staff member in 1989. In total, Beth served Crisis Connection for 33 years. 

Beth was a 1994 graduate of St. Mary of the Woods College and a 1998 graduate of the University of Louisville with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Beth served on the Southern Hills Counseling Center Board for many years as well as the Lincoln Hills Development Corporation Board and the Spencer County Mental Health Association Board. Beth enjoyed music, hiking, hot air balloons and riding motorcycles.

Beth was extremely passionate about changing society’s norms, especially how these norms related to women. Over the years Beth would receive countless awards for her social work and relentless dedication to protecting women from sexual and domestic violence. Among those awards were: Indiana Salute to Women Torch Bearer Award in 2008; Ruth Ann Popcheff Human Service Award in 2003 through the Indiana Victim Assistance Network; 2010 Steel Magnolia Award; and the Doris Buffet Sunshine Award for her service in aiding domestic violence survivors.

Beth is survived by her two daughters, Jannessa (Scott) Force of Bethpage, TN and Natalie Bolin of Santa Claus; a brother, Nick (LouAnn) Weyer of Sheridan, and a sister, Marc (Don) Hollingsworth of Carmel; two grandchildren, Jon (Mika) Bolin and Liz (Will) Barr; great-grandchildren, Luke and Natasha; and her ex-husband, Jan Stein. 

Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Barbara Weyer; a brother, Jim Weyer and his wife Karen; a sister in infancy, Arlinda Weyer; son in-law, Brian Bolin; and two nieces, Nicole and Finley Wieringa.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 5 at Main Street Bistro at the Wollenmann House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crisis Connection or Sisters of Saint Benedict. Condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
