Vincente Joseph Herrera, 46 of Virginia Beach, VA, unexpectedly passed away on May 23, 2025, Memorial Day weekend. He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Joseph.

Vince was born on November 15, 1978 in Beaufort, SC, to Eugene and Ernestine (Milani) Herrera. Raised a true “military brat”, his early years were spent in Beaufort, Quantico, VA, Cherry Point, NC, Portland, OR, Okinawa, Japan, Camp Pendleton, CA, Monterey, CA, and finally Port Hueneme, CA. Vince graduated from Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, CA, participating in football, basketball, and baseball.

Extensive travel did not deter Vince from enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 2001. He served in the Corps for eight years; first in the supply occupational field, followed by four years as an air traffic controller (ATC). He was passionate about controlling aircraft and loved serving his country. Departing the Marines at the rank of Staff Sergeant, he transitioned his enthusiasm to a career in air traffic control during which he served in Indianapolis, West Palm Beach, and Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Anna (Bueltel) Herrera of Holland; his parents, Gene and Ernie (Milani) Herrera of Smithfield, VA; his sister, Shannon (Herrera) Blackmer and her husband, Brent Blackmer of Suffolk, VA; and his brother, Chris Herrera and his wife Melissa (Hodges) Herrera of Suffolk; his niece, Sasha Blackmer; and his nephews Nico Blackmer, Gabriel Herrera, Elijah Herrera, and Bradley Herrera.

Visitation will precede the funeral on June 24 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at RW Baker and Company at 509 W Washington St., Suffolk, VA. The graveside funeral service will follow at 1 at A.G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery at 5310 Milner Rd., Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers, Vince’s family respectfully asks you to consider supporting the charity Hope For Life Rescue, Virginia Beach.

A beloved son, brother, uncle, and husband, Vince was a rabid San Francisco 49ers and Giants fan. Vince found his true home with Anna, his “Lady in Red”, with whom he shared “Crazy Love”, and he will be missed by all.
