Michael J. “Mike” Mehling, 79, of Jasper, passed away surrounded by family at Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper.
Mike was born in Ferdinand, on October 15, 1946, to Alois and Leona (Braunecker) Mehling. He married Linda Neukam on October 11, 1969, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper.
A 1964 graduate of St. Ferdinand High School, he then served in the United States Army National Guard.
He was an electrician for E&K Electric and then retired from Weyer Electric.
Mike was a member of Trinity United of Christ and American Legion Post No. 147.
He enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes, camping, going to the casino and spending time with family and friends and his dog, Libby.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Linda Mehling, Jasper; two sisters, Norma Roos, Dale and Sue (Terry) Weyer, Ferdinand; one brother, Ken Mehling, Ferdinand; and many nieces and nephews.
One son, Chad Mehling, two sisters, Irma Gogel and Bootsie Schwoeppe, and two brothers, Lee and Stan Mehling preceded him in death.
A funeral service for Michael J. “Mike” Mehling will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. American Legion Post No. 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel on Thursday.
