Ferdinand Police

Domestic battery charged

At 7:11 p.m. Saturday, January 16, police received a report of a domestic situation at 221 E. 8th Street. After an investigation, Adrian Gutierrez was arrested for domestic battery as a level 6 felony and booked into the Dubois County Security Center.

Jasper Police

OWI

At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, polce received a report of a possibly intoxicated driver in the area of Fazoli’s Restaurant. After speaking with Samuel J. Wendholt, 62, of Jasper it was determined that he had been drinking. He was taken to Memorial Hospital, where a chemical test revealed a BAC of .290%. Wendholt was subsequently booked into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges of operating while intoxiated and operating with a BAC over .15%.

Felony OWI

After observing a 1993 Ford F150 swerving and crossing the centerline, police conducted a traffic stop at Newton and 35th Street. The driver, Aaron J. Schwartz, 38, of Jasper, failed a field sobriety test and was taken to Memorial Hospital, where a chemical test indicated the presence of benzodiazepines and a BAC of .09%. Schwartz was booked into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges of OWI with a prior and OWI-endangerment. He was also cited for false and fictitious plate, driving left of center and having no valid driver’s license.

Man injured in one-vehicle crash

According to police, Yordany Salvador, 33, of Jasper was southbound on Mill Street when his 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan traveled off the road just south of 25th Street and struck a utility pole. Police found Salvador slumped over the wheel. He was transported to Memorial Hospital, reportedly suffering from trauma. Upon his release, he will face preliminary charges of OWI with a BAC over .15%, OWI-endangerment and operating a motor vehicle while never being licensed. The incident occurred at 3:01 a.m. on January 18.

Turnng accident

Evelyn Sermersheim, 81, of Jasper was attempting an illegal left turn onto 6th Street from the southbound lane of Newton Street when the rear passenger side of her 2013 Toyota was struck by a northbound 2015 Nissan, driven by Jessica James, 33, of Tell City. Neither driver was injured in the 1 p.m., January 15 accident, but Semersheim was cited for improper turning. No damage estimate was available.
