Friday After 5, Owensboro’s free summer concert series, continues this Friday, August 9. Wax Factory, a pop/dance/rock band, will entertain from 6:30-10 p.m. on the Jagoe Homes Patio Stage at the BB&T Plaza, located at the RiverPark Center. Drew Aud, a local favorite, will offer acoustic music from 7-10 p.m. in the Atmos Energy Courtyard. And Remedies will bring high energy dance favorites to The Kentucky Legend Pier from 8-11:30 p.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center. 

Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association’s All-America Selections Garden in Evansville is celebrating its 10th anniversary this Saturday, August 10 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. The public is invited to attend the anniversary event. Admission and parking are both free, and those who attend will receive free plants and seeds. The event will also feature talks and tours of the All-America Selections Garden, which is located at 3501 E. Lloyd Expressway, within the Master Gardener Display Garden. Rockport’s Cruise-In will be held on Main Street this Saturday, August 10 from 6-11 p.m. The event will also feature karaoke, which will begin at approximately 7 p.m. 

Beginner’s Sewing – Level 2 class will be held at Traditional Arts Today in Ferdinand on Saturday, August 17 from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. EDT. The class will be taught by Deb Souders and Patti Schroeder and is designed for those with basic sewing experience or who have taken previous sewing classes. Participants who complete the class will leave with a newly learned talent and a finished pillow case. Fabric and a sewing kit with all supplies needed will be provided. An exhibit of work by the Patoka Valley Quilter’s Guild is currently on display at the Krempp Gallery in Jasper (951 College Avenue) through August 29. Many exquisite quilts and pieces of fiber art will be featured in the exhibit. The work represents a wide variety of techniques from traditional pieced and appliquéd quilts, machine and hand stitched, to some cutting-edge art and decorative pieces. The Patoka Valley Quilter’s Guild currently has more than eighty members from the area, including Spencer County. Krempp Gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday from 12-3 p.m. All times Eastern. Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit of icons and drawings by Br. Michael Moran, CP, through August 30. Br. Michael is proficient in many media, but one of his specialties is painting icons, which are very stylized, flat and almost two-dimensional when compared to their western cousins. Usually painted on wooden panels with gold leaf backgrounds and halos, icons are colorful. Old Friendship Church, located four miles east of Hwy. 61 on Hwy. 68 in Lynnville, is having a Lord’s Acre dinner and auction this Saturday, August 10. The dinner will start at 4 p.m. and the auction will begin at 6 p.m. The event will include a country store, bounce house and a clown making balloon animals. Items in the auction include quilts, handmade wood items, Cardinals and Reds tickets and much more (must be present to win). For more info, call 812-983-4618.

Lincolnland Worship Center will host special guests Anthony and Erica Tanjoco from Kileen, Texas this Sunday, August 11. The Mariah Hill and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish Picnic will be held Sunday, August 11 at Mariah Hill Park, just below Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill. Fried chicken dinners will be served in the air-conditioned dining hall from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. CDT. Mariah Hill Soup, hamburgers, Mexican food and ice cream will also be available. The event will also feature handmade quilts, inflatables, face-painting, children’s games, and a grand raffle (which starts at 4 p.m.). Free shuttle service will also be available. Community Table, a mission ministry of Dale Presbyterian Church, serves a free meal year round, every Thursday evening except holidays, at the Micah Center, 6 North Main St. in Dale. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., meal served 5:30-6:30 p.m., doors close at 7 p.m.

Trinity United Methodist Church is seeking mementos such as photographs, quilts and other items associated with the church in preparation for the 150th year anniversary of the main sanctuary’s construction. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Evansville, in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, will hold free classes on mental illness beginning Monday, September 9 at Old North United Methodist Church (4201 Stringtown Road in Evansville). Classes will be held for 11 consecutive Mondays and will run from 6:45-9 p.m. each week. Participants will gain skills and information regarding a variety of mental illnesses. Spencer County Council on Aging provides a SWIRCA meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday in the Lincoln Manor Community Room, 714 Sycamore St., Rockport. Suggested donation is $3.50 for those 60 and older. Food stamps are accepted. Reservations must be called in 24 hours in advance at 812-649-9828. The meal site is closed on Fridays. Activities such as bingo and games are scheduled throughout the month after lunch.

• All ages are invited to Third Thursday Throwback on Thursday, August 15 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. The event will be Gilligan’s Island themed and will include games, crafts, island treats, a photo booth and “Invent something you might need on a desert island”. Registration is appreciated.

• Chrisney Pacemakers Walking Club meets every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. at the library. All ages are welcome to join.

• Genealogy assistance is available to patrons on Mondays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Free delivery services are available for all Lincoln Heritage Public Library area homebound residents in North Spencer. Patrons may request large print books, paperbacks, books on CD, music CDs, magazines, word puzzles and DVDs, as well as items for the visually impaired — all at no cost.
