Charles W. Small, 96, of Richland, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rockport.

Charlie was born in Spencer County, on November 25, 1924, to the late Chester and Hazel (Covey) Small.

He attended Richland General Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, song leader, and Sunday School Superintendent.

Charlie was a United States Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He and his father-in-law owned and operated Partridge Lumber Company in Richland. After his father-in-law passed away, Charlie and his family owned and operated Small’s Café in Richland. Charlie had also been a carpenter and had worked for Bosma Construction Company for many years, eventually retiring from there.

He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Lois Small; his children, Debbie Ray of Evansville, Larry Small and his wife, Tammy, of Hatfield, David Small and his wife, Rita, of Richland,and Pam Wilson and her husband, Gary, of Poseyville; his sisters, Betty Paceley of Rockport, Lois Smith of Rockport and Emma McCarroll of Greenwood. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Wilson; his son-in-law, Don Ray; and several siblings.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Jimmy Haynes and Pastor James England officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery. The United States Army will provide military honors.

Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m., Thursday, July 15, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
