Cleon Gilbert Forler, 89, of Chrisney, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.
Cleon was born in Spencer County on January 22, 1934, to Cletus and Eleanora (Kaiser) Forler.
Cleon was a life-time member of St. Martin Catholic Church and a United States Army veteran, having been stationed in Germany.
Cleon was very involved in the Chrisney community during his life. He was the manager of Chrisney Lumber and Hardware for 46 years; served as trust director and board member of the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery Board; a 60-year member of Chrisney Volunteer Fire Department, serving 10 of those years as fire chief; a life-time member of the Chrisney VFW; and had served as a board member and director for Chrisney Community Apartments.
In addition to his parents, Cleon was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Lynn Forler; his sister, Barbara Lasher; his brother, Raphael Forler; and his stepmother, Kate Forler.
Cleon is survived by his wife, Carol (Koch) Forler; his daughter, Lisa Williams and her husband, Duane; his son, Joseph Forler and his wife, Linda; and his grandsons, Drew Forler and Brady Forler.
A funeral was held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, August 1 at St. Martin Catholic Church, 58 S. Church St., Chrisney with Father Ron Kreilein officiating. Burial followed in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. A volunteer firefighter memorial service preceded the funeral mass.
