“Entertainment Tonight,” an internationally syndicated entertainment news show, was on locational the Convent of the Immaculate Conception, Ferdinand, Saturday evening, July 27, to film the Convent Combo, a singing group of Benedictine Sisters.
The Convent Combo program was aired Monday evening on Channel 44, WEVV-TV.
Th Combo was featured last week in the Evansville Courier in an article by Courier staff writer Steve Kinney. “Entertainment Tonight” picked up the sisters’ story from the Associated Press wire service.
The program has a viewing audience of over 20 million, and is carried in Japan, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, as well as major cities throughout the United States.
The Convent Combo features eight Benedictine Sisters, Sister Ann Francis Hillenbrand, Sister Brenda Engleman, Sister Mary Frances Schafer, Sister Geraldine Hedinger, Sister Mary Inez Mitchell, Sister Karlene Sensmeier, Sister Mary Louise Uebelhor and Sister Rose Wildeman, and one former Benedictine sister, Ms. Patti Hines.
A production crew from Nashville headed by producer Dick Heard and Southeastern Correspondent Elaine Ganick filmed the show Saturday night at the Convent of the Immaculate Conception. The crew filmed the Combo leading a Vesper service in the Convent chapel. Later, they filmed the Combo performing for an all-convent audience such musical numbers as “Elvira” and “Wipe Out.”
