Pvt. Norman R. Begle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Begle, Dale, Ind. entered the Army June 15, 1961. Begle had his eight weeks of basic training at Fort Knox, KY., from where he was sent to Fort Belvior, Virginia, where he entered the school of engineers for eight weeks. He graduated November 7, 1961, fourth in the class of 42. He is now stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Army Pst. Joseph L. Verkamp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert A. Recently was graduated from the 82d Airborne Division Jump School at Fort Bragg, N.C. Verkamp received his paratrooper wings after completing three weeks of intensive ground training which included five parachute jumps. The 82d, a strategic Army Corps (STRAC) unit, maintains an immediate readiness force for airborne deployment to any area in the world. He entered the Army in June 1961 and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. The 17-year-old soldier is a 1961 graduate of Ferdinand High School.
