A large crowd attended the Polio Benefit basketball game at Rockport gym last Sunday afternoon.

The main attraction was the women’s basketball teams playing 6-minute quarters at half time and between games of the church teams.

Dale had the largest group of players on hand. With Kate Clark as coach and Louanna Kaiser as “Stupid Manager”, the north Cuties defeated the other Spencer county players 12 to 0. High scoring honors went to Karen Giovanetti, Willa Stapleton and Rudy Shelton.

Other Dale players included Mahlee Dougan, Boots Prusz, Bea Winkler, Hazel Conner, Sally Schum, Ruth Moseley, Ruth Smith, Mary Jane Griepnstroh, and Florence Spillman.

An enthusiastic rooting section led by Mildred Wibbeler and Vernita Thrope, boosted the local team.

The spectators were treated to an undisciplined, uninhibited type of basketball. Anna Boultinghouse, of Rockport, was the spark of the South team. Her dribbling was fantastic and her free throw shooting was undoubtedly patterned after the famous Globe Trotters.
