Doris F. Meece, 87, of Richland, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville, surrounded by family.
Doris was born in Hartford, Kentucky on November 7, 1937, to William Claude and Virginia Helen (Jackson) Wigginton.
Doris was a 1957 graduate of Hartford High School and married Charles “Charlie” Meece on December 14, 1957. They were married for 63 years before his passing in 2021.
Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Richland Christian Church, AGAPE Ladies, and Gideons Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends.
She had worked at the Cigar Factory in Owensboro, then drove a school bus for over 30 years for South Spencer School Corporation. She also officiated volleyball games for several years and loved all South Spencer sports, attending many sporting events throughout the years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Claude “Sonny” Wigginton Jr. and his wife, Maxine.
She is survived by her children, David Allen Meece and his wife, Marie, Sidney Darrin Meece and his wife, Dottie, Sarah Deniece Mullican and her husband, Patrick, and Rebekah Ann Wittman; her grandchildren, Trent Jones and his wife, Becky, Jessica Clark and her husband, Randall, Sidney Darrin Meece Jr. and his wife, Aly, DaKota Meece, Cheyenne Meece, Kamren Mullican, Isaac Wittman, Reya Mullican and Rachel Wittman; 14 great-grandchildren, give or take a few; and her brother, Jesse X. Wigginton and his wife, Glenda.
Services were held Friday, July 18, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Coy Walters and Pastor Drex Stuart officiating. Burial followed at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville.
