An Owensboro man was killed in an April 24, 5:35 a.m. collision on State Road 161 near the Locust Hill Motel in Rockport. According to police, 25-year-old Michael P. Ritter of Owensboro, KY, pulled out of the Locust Hill Motel parking lot at a high rate of speed, colliding with a 1997 Chevrolet Conventional Cab that was traveling northbound on 161. A witness in a third, uninvolved vehicle confirmed those details to police. The driver of the second vehicle, 40-year-old Dustin Martin of Owensboro, was transported to Owensboro Regional Health hospital for treatment of his injuries. Ritter died of his injuries at the scene. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, leading to a blood draw to be performed on Ritter; results are pending.
