Duane “Duce” King, 85, of Jasper, formerly Mariah Hill, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.
Duane was born December 12, 1934 in Brazil, to Addison and Lois (Helms) King. He married Bernice Ebert on August 20, 1960 in St. Ferdinand Church.
Duane was a Pipefitter. He was an Army Veteran and also played football and baseball for Army. Duane was a semi-pro baseball player who played for numerous area teams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking.
A member of Mary Help of Christian Catholic Church and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124, he belonged to numerous organizations within the community.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice King of Jasper; one son, Bruce (Christina) King of Westmoreland, Tennessee; three daughters, Valarie (Daniel) Van Winkle of Mariah Hill, Brenda (David) Burkitt of Mulkeytown, Illinois and Michelle King of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Donna Hoyer of Sarasota, Florida; a brother, Conway (Jean) King of Newburgh and ten grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by a brother, Gary King and a sister, Sharane Neihaus.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 9, at 10 a.m. CDT in Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Mariah Hill. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. Central until time of services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rights.
