Ferdinand Police Department
Car vs semi
Ferdinand Police were called to the intersection of West 3rd Street and Industrial Park Road to a car vs semi collision. The call came in at approximately 6:30 a.m. on July 30. Jonatan Navarro Dubon of Huntingburg, driving a 2009 Honda Civic west through the intersection and did not see the semi traveling north on Industrial. The semi was driven by Patrick Purdy of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Following the collision both vehicles were disabled and had to be towed. Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service was called to the scene but both drivers refused treatment. Navarro Dubon was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way.
Accident in drive-thru
Two vehicles were waiting in the drive-thru teller line at Old National Bank on Saturday, August 1, both facing west. Mackenzie R. James, 25, of Ferdinand waited in a 2010 Toyota Corolla behind Sheila M. Hagedorn, 53, of Santa Claus, driving a 2013 Chevy Malibu. James advised she believed she had set her parking brake but had apparently not pulled it hard enough when her vehicle rolled into the Malibu. No injuries resulted and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. James was cited with Following too Close.
Ferdinand Fire Department
MasterBrand fire
Ferdinand VFD members were called to the MasterBrand plant at 624 West 3rd Street at 10:22 p.m. on July 27 where a small fire had started in one of the machines. Maintenance personnel had found the part and removed it, extinguishing the blaze. A cabinet front had jammed under a UV light and caught several cabinets on fire from the heat. Ferdinand VFD members checked additional places on the machine to ascertain that no fire was present. Four trucks were on the scene with 18 personnel for approximately 25 minutes. Ferdinand Police assisted. The fire alarm at MasterBrand went off again at 3:54 p.m. on July 28. Upon arrival they were advised by facility management there was a glitch in the system resulting in a false call out. Four trucks and 12 personnel were on the scene for around five minutes and Ferdinand Police also arrived on the scene.
Jasper Police Department
Pool disturbance
Jasper Police were called to the city’s municipal swimming pool on July 29 at 4:04 p.m. where a male subject was behaving badly. The subject, Eric C. Kreiger, 35, of Jasper, had been asked to leave several times but refused and continued arguing. He was arrested and transported to the Dubois County Security Center, charged with criminal trespass (a Class A misdemeanor) and disorderly conduct (a Class B misdemeanor).
Resisting law enforcement
A Jasper Police officer spotted a vehicle passing other vehicles in the turn lane southbound on Newton Street near Reyling Drive. He turned around and attempted to stop the driver, Lauren L. Gossom, 32, of Owensboro, Kentucky, but she refused to stop. She was eventually stopped on Newton south of Second Street and taken into custody without incident. Gossom was cited for resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and reckless driving as well as for disregarding an automatic signal and a stop sign.
Accident resulting in death
Joshua W. Rominger, 32, of Jasper, was arrested on July 29 at 6:03 p.m. and charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death while intoxicated (a Level 3 felony). According to Jasper Police, they were dispatched to a vehicle vs person accident and upon arrival, determined there had been a domestic dispute between the male and female occupants of the residence at 1323 Newton Street. As Rominger was leaving the residence in a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup he ran over the female with the truck’s rear wheels. After he struck her he refused to stop at the scene. She was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital at 6:50 p.m. Rominger was later located in Paoli and placed into custody at approximately 8:21 p.m. It was determined he was under the influence of marijuana (THC). Police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police.
Three vehicle accident
Police were dispatched to 1426 Jackson Street on July 31 at 3:28 a.m. in reference to a three vehicle accident with injuries. Joanna Calderon, 19, of Jasper, driving a 2000 Honda Civic was found to be intoxicated on marijuana and alcohol. Both Calderon and a female passenger were transported to Memorial Hospital with injuries. The other two vehicles were unoccupied. Officers found prescription pills inside the Honda Civic and Calderon was charged with unlawful possession of a legend drug, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI causing serious bodily injured. She was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
Shoplifter at Walmart
At 6:49 p.m. on August 1, Jasper PD responded to the report of a shoplifter at Walmart on Newton Street. The male suspect fled the scene in his vehicle but was later located nearby thanks to a description by Walmart employees. Kenneth Phillips, age 40, of Bloomfield, was arrested and charged with theft (a Class A misdemeanor), having stolen $743.72 in merchandise, theft with a prior conviction (Level 6 felony) and driving while suspended-prior. Phillips was transported and lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
