Otwell man arrested for shoplifting

At approximately 11:33 a.m. last Monday, December 14, Jasper Police received a call from Walmart Asset Protection advising of a male subject who had allegedly stolen a $69 pair of earbuds from the store. Bryan Grubb, 51, of Otwell, was arrested and charged with theft. He was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.

Juvenile pedestrian struck by car

Leona Werner, 85, was southbound on Portersville Road near Jasper Middle School when she left the roadway for an unknown reason and drove onto the sidewalk and struck a juvenile pedestrian. Both Werner and the juvenile were treated at the scene and released by Dubois County EMS. Werner was cited for failure to obey signs and markings. Damage to her 2011 Toyota Camry was estimated at $500.

Dog training facility owner charged

The owner of Ethan’s K-9 Solutions at 611 E 6th Street in Jasper was arrested last Thursday, December 17, on animal cruelty and obstruction charges. According to the report, Jasper Police Department was contacted in August in reference to animals possibly being neglected while in the care of Ethan Rose at the dog training facility he owns. A dog that had left the facility in late July was immediately taken to a veterinarian and diagnosed with dehydration and found to be underweight, according to information reported to police. Officers later learned that on August 14, a dog was found deceased at the facility by employees; a second dog was found deceased at the facility five days later. The dogs were submitted for necropsies, which determined both had died from dehydration complications. The investigation uncovered that Rose had allegedly made statements or threats to witnesses to not speak to law enforcement about the situation. A search warrant for the facility and an arrest warrant for Rose were both granted on December 16. Rose was taken into custody at the facility on three counts of animal cruelty (class A misdemeanors) and two counts of obstruction (level 6 felonies). He was lodged in the Security Center on the charges.

Driver cited after collision

Laura Kunkel Polen, 43, of Jasper, was turning north onto US 231 from CR 100 S when, according to police, 42-year-old Stephanie Riggins of Huntingburg disregarded an automated signal and proceeded into the intersection, striking Polen’s 2011 Ford Escape. Both drivers were treated at the scene by EMS and released. Riggins was cited for disregarding an automatic signal. Both vehicles were deemed total losses in the December 20, 3:48 p.m. collision. Jasper Police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office and Dubois County EMS.

Charged with neglect of a dependent

At approximately 1:18 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, Jasper Police were notified of a female subject who had left her residence on foot with a juvenile while intoxicated. The subject, identified as 20-year-old Andrea Torres of Jasper, was later located in the Germantown Center parking lot with the juvenile. The juvenile was released to family, and Torres was transported to Memorial Hospital, where chemical tests was performed. Torres was then charged with neglect of a dependent (level 6 felony), minor consumption (class C misdemeanor) and public intoxication (class B misdemeanor).

OWI arrest

Jasper Police received a tip of a possibly intoxicated driver at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19. A vehicle matching the complainant’s description was located in the Dollar General parking lot on Manheim Road. Officers observed the Nissan leave the store and conducted a traffic stop near 43rd Street and Covington Lane when the driver crossed the centerline on multiple occasions. Officers determined the driver, identified as 39-year-old Patricia Mahan of Jasper, was driving under the influence. After failing a field sobriety test, Mahan was transported to Memorial Hospital for a certified chemical test, which tested positive for benzodiazepine and buprenorphine. Mahan was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
