On the evening of Sunday, September 4, at approximately 4:03 p.m., Spencer County Deputy Jason Littrell was on patrol in the Grandview area on SR 66. Deputy Littrell observed a vehicle driving on Forsythe Street and made a traffic stop due to an infraction he observed.
Deputy Littrell approached the vehicle and smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver, identified as Drake Freels of Evansville, was detained. Deputy Ben Nanney arrived to assist.
During a search of the vehicle, a large amount of marijuana was located, as well as methamphetamine, two pistols and cash. Freels was also found to be previously convicted of a felony.
Freels was arrested and transported to the Spencer County Law Enforcement Center on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (level 4 felony); Possession of Methamphetamine (level 5 felony); Possession of Marijuana (level 6 felony); and Enhancement Charges (Firearm in Possession of Illegal Drugs).
All subjects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
