On Saturday, February 18, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a serious traffic crash at the intersection of US 231 and CR 1000 North in Chrisney.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found a Toyota Tundra on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of US 231 and a Jeep Cherokee on its side in the travel portion of the northbound lanes of US 231. An investigation revealed that Christopher Allen, 56, of Fort Branch, was northbound, driving the Toyota on US 231 approaching CR 1000 North. The Jeep, which was driven by Michael Seger, 27 of Holland, was traveling westbound on CR 1000 North approaching U.S. 231. The driver of the Toyota stated, and the evidence at the scene indicated, that the driver of the Jeep failed to stop at the stop sign prior to entering U.S. 231. As a result, the Toyota Tundra struck the driver side of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep and his three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was treated for complaints of pain but was not transported for further care.
Deceased include the driver, Michael Seger, 27, of Holland, and passengers Fernanda Cruz Valencia, 23, Bernard Goeppner, 65, and Donna Cassidy, 60, all of Holland.
The investigation is ongoing.
