Gayla Jo Byers, 69, passed away at her home on Monday, November 8, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Gayla was born on September 26, 1952, to Glenn and Frieda Ellis of Gentryville.
She was a life-long member of Gentrville United Methodist Church and a member of the Chrisney Chapter 357 Order of Eastern Star. She worked as a teachers aid in the North Spencer School Corporation for several years.
Gayla loved to read, go to yard sales, work with flowers and camping.
She was married to Don Byers on May 29. 1970, in Gentryville United Methodist Church by Rev. Andy Blythe.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Angie (Derrick) Bulkley of Mt. Vernon and son, Donnie (Kassondra) of Gentyville along with two grandchildren, Maddie and Zack Bulkley of Mt Vernon. She is also survived by a brother, Mike Ellis of Gentryville and sister, Karen (Deacon Mike) Waninger of Chrisney.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 12, at Gentryville United Methodist Church with Pastor Charlotte Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville.
Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 11, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home-Youngblood Chapel at 36 East Market St. Chrisney, IN 47611 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.
