George “Doug” Ambs, 76, of Rockport, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on November 4, 1946, to the late George Ambs and Dorothy (Payne) Ambs.
Doug served his country proudly in the United States Navy, and was also a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and a proud member of the NRA.
He also enjoyed his politics. Doug owned and operated a restaurant here in the local area for many years.
Doug was a loving family man, who loved his pets and enjoyed spending time with his brothers and family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Ann Ford; son, John Ambs, and John’s children (Jed, Casex and MaeLee), daughter, Mindy (Daniel) Webb, and their son (Devin), Paul (Debbie) Harpenau, Elaine (Carl) Jones and Steve (Rebecca) Harpenau, Noel (Bridgett) Harpenau, Mark (Kelli) Harpenau and Sherri (Mark) Goss; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Larry, Bobby, Mike, Rick, Kenny and Chris; sisters, Judy Maddox, Becky Hagedorn and Carol Keller, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sharon Sue Ambs; brother, Freddie Ambs; and sister, Theresa Ambs.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Rockport, with Father Ron Kreilein officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery with military rights.
Visitation is from 3 until 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home.
