Gordon L. Taylor, 80, of Bristow, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 21, 1943, to Murl and Theresia (Gelhausen) Taylor.

On May 8, 1965, Gordon married Frances A. Seibert at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bristow. Together, they built a beautiful family over the last 59 years.

Gordon was the Director of Transportation for Perry Central Community Schools for 44 years until his retirement in 2014. During his time at Perry Central he was a custodian and the head of maintenance and transportation. Before working for the school system, he had worked at Bristow Mill and was a grain farmer for most of his life.

He was a faithful and devoted member of St. Isidore Catholic Church where he served on many committees over the years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, Timothy Sweeney Chapter No. 17069 and 4th Degree Assembly No. 2065. He had served on the Farm Services Agency Board in Rockport and Clark Township Board of Trustees.

Gordon enjoyed vegetable gardening, reading farm magazines and newspapers, from the front to the back and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, IU basketball and of course, the Perry Central Commodores. He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren and loved to attend their sporting events and school activities as often as he could. Gordon also loved his dog, Hershey and his beloved Golden Retrievers, Red, Buddy and Bell, who have passed.

Gordon was a kind man who always put others before himself. He was selfless, family oriented and fun loving. He will be dearly missed by family, friends, co-workers and his community.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Frances Taylor; children, Gregory Taylor (Marsha), Darrell Taylor (Lisa) and Sheila Borden (Ryan); grandchildren, Sage Taylor, Cory Taylor (Sydney Tungate), Baylie Taylor, Taylor Borden and Reagan Borden; sisters, Yvonne Lindauer, Herbie Seibert and a Cletus Taylor (Leona).

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Pat Holpp; and his in-laws, Norman Holpp, Richard Lindauer, Charles Seibert and Howard Lee and Faye Seibert.

A heartfelt thank you to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for the care they provided. A special thank you to Sara Vaal and all the nurses, aides, chaplain and social workers. Gordon referred to those people as saints.

A Mass of Christan burial was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bristow. Father Luke Waugh officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held on Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. with a K of C service beginning at 7 p.m. and again Thursday morning from 8-9 a.m. at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
