Herbert Max Goodman, 94, of Tennyson, peacefully passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
Herbert was born on September 30, 1926, in his home near Chrisney, to Lona Cox Goodman and Elza Goodman.
He graduated from Chrisney High School in 1944 and then entered the Army. He took his basic training in Tyler, Texas, where he married his high school sweetheart, Jo Nell Kramer, on April 14, 1945. After his discharge from the Army, he went to school at Lockyear’s School of Business and worked at Sunbeam and then Whirlpool until he retired in 1989.
He was a member of Tennyson General Baptist Church where he served in many capacities: deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, youth leader, treasurer, lawn and church maintenance and whatever was needed. He devoted his life to his family and to his church. He loved his garden and had a row of colorful zinnias every year.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 76 years, Jo Nell (Kramer) Goodman; one son, Bob Goodman (Louetta) of Denver, CO; three daughters, Jo Ann (Roger) McBride of Tennyson, Barb Polk of Denver, CO, and Paula (Leon) Key of Evansville; a sister, Sundra Goodman Faass (Larry) of Newburgh; as well as 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Elbert Goodman, Chlorene Goodman Woods, Louella Goodman Norman, Lowell Goodman, Herschel Goodman and Blayne Goodman.
The memorial service and visitation with refreshments to follow will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at Tennyson General Baptist Church. A military memorial service will then follow at Hackleman Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Tennyson General Baptist Church.
