Santa Claus Museum & Village had some helping hands last Wednesday. Several seniors from Heritage Hills High School decided to put in their service hours at the local attraction, helping clean up the historic church and prepare decor for the holiday season. Believe it or not, that will begin in earnest once Halloween has had its say. Holiday World’s fall operating season continues to draw large crowds to the community, along with a great deal of homework for Santa’s Elves.
The old Santa Claus Post Office has already accumulated piles upon piles of letters to Santa from tourists and by mail. Processing children’s letters to Kris Kringle takes a lot of time and effort, so wrapping up a few hundred letters here or there before Halloween is a big help. Fortunately, the volunteers from Heritage Hills were happy to put their elf hats on and chip in.
Interestingly, many of the volunteers had never been to the Santa Claus Museum & Village before.
“We take our own backyard for granted,” said museum volunteer Donna Beckman.
She hoped to see some of the seniors return to help out again later this year once Santa’s Mail starts to really pile up. Volunteer elves start processing letters in earnest after Thanksgiving, which is not at all that far off.
