James H. “Pete” Taylor, 86, of Grandview, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Spencer County on November 22, 1938 to Harold Taylor and Mary Ruth “Bushrod” Lindsey.

James served in the United Stated Army. He retired from Barmet in Rockport. James was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved playing poker and checkers, watching classic TV shows, and listening to timeless music. However, his greatest joy came from watching his great-grandsons play football, sharing stories, cracking jokes, and cherishing moments with his family and friends.

James is survived by caregiver and granddaughter Tomarra Taylor; his sister Dorthy Green; and his children, Gladys Taylor Calhoun (James), William “Tippy” Taylor, Marilyn Taylor, Donna Taylor, Rhonda Risse (Douglas) and Zach Taylor. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta “Johnson” Taylor; son, James Taylor Jr.; daughter, Debra Taylor; siblings Amos, Anna, Joey, Velma, and Mary; granddaughter Brittany; and his daughter-in-law Monica.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
