James L. “Jim” Stein, 94, of Lamar, passed away on May 1, 2022, at Oakwood Health Campus, Tell City.

He was born in Evanston on July 3, 1927, to Steven and Ida (Braun) Stein. He was a 1945 graduate of Tell City High School and served in the United States Air Force.

Jim was united in marriage on December 5, 1945, at Santa Claus United Methodist Church to Nadine Schriefer, who preceded him in death in 2017. He and Nadine were the owners of Stein’s Garage, where he retired in 1998.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling and cookouts with his family.

He was a member of Santa Claus United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #242.

Surviving are his sons, Jan Stein (Mary Mundy) of Lamar, Dean Stein (Deborah) of Dale and Lenn Stein (Randy Dennison, Jr.) of Lamar; grandchildren, Melissa Reisz (Rich) of Grandview, Jannessa Force (Scott) of Bethpage, Tennessee and Natalie Bolin of Santa Claus; three great-grandchildren, Jon Bolin, Liz Barr and Logan Reisz; two great-great grandchildren, Natasha Barr and Luke Bolin; and a brother, Howard Stein (Phyllis) of Louisville, Kentucky.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were his siblings, Erwin Dersch, Arthur, Rusty, Harry and Albert Stein, Matilda Ruehl and Lucille Stein, and grandson-in-law, Brian Bolin.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at Santa Claus United Methodist Church, 351 N. Holiday Blvd. in Santa Claus. Rev. Dave Blystone will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Santa Claus First United Methodist Church or Spencer County Relay for Life.
