James William Buxton, 96, of Chrisney, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022, at The Waters of Rockport.
James was born in Spencer County on May 2, 1926, to William and Antoinette (Forler) Buxton.
James was a lifetime member of St. Martin Catholic Church and a Bruté Award Winner. He also served on the St. Martin Cemetery Board for over 40 years.
He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theater. A lifetime member of the VFW in Boonville and Chrisney, he was also a member of the Rockport American Legion.
James was a carpenter and home builder, even building his own home, where he loved to spend his time. He had been a volunteer fireman in Chrisney and was also an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, gardener, and furniture builder.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, who passed away in 2012; his children, Raymond and David; and his brothers, Clyde and Gilbert.
James is survived by his children, James Buxton and his wife, Leslie; Jerry Buxton and his wife, Joyce; Stephen Buxton and his wife, Deanna; and William Buxton and his wife, Marsha; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Mildred Snyder and Evelyn Maxfield.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, at St. Martin Catholic Church, 52 South Church St. in Chrisney, with Father Ron Kreilein officiating. Burial will follow in St. Martin Cemetery.
Visitation is 2 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home-Youngblood Chapel, 36 E Market St., Chrisney, with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and from 9 until 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at the church.
The family encourages masks to be worn, but they are not required.
