Jerome “Jerry” Charles Bockting, 81, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at his home.
Jerry was born in Mariah Hill on December 12, 1941, to Carl and Mathilda (Wernke) Bockting. He worked for Indiana Bell and retired from Ameritech in 1999 after 35 years of service.
Jerry served in the Army National Guard for three years. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Theresa Men’s Club, and Fendrich’s Men’s Club. Jerry was a member of the 80’s Conservation Club and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Jerry, along with his wife Joan, was inducted into the Simon Bruté Society of the Diocese of Evansville for his service to his church in 2018. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. Jerry was on bowling leagues and played softball until he was 59 years old.
He was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan (Weinzapfel) Bockting of Evansville; daughter, Jill Henning (Bradley) of Boonville; son, James Michael Bockting (Angela) of Evansville; sister, Rita Sonderman; brother-in-law, Robert Knott; grandchildren, Aubrey Henning and Garrett Henning; and step-grandchildren, Sicily Aliotta and Cypress Aliotta.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Knott; and brother-in-law, Arthur Sonderman.
A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Saturday, March 25, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd., Evansville, IN 47715 with Father Zach Etienne celebrating. Entombment followed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
