Joe Ann Rinehart, 83, of Santa Claus passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia.
Joe Ann was born in Smith Mills, Kentucky on January 1, 1940, to Garland and Corine (Haner) Vandiver. She was united in marriage with Edwin R. Rinehart on March 11, 1962 at Bennett Memorial UMC, Henderson, Kentucky. The Rineharts celebrated their 61st anniversary this year.
During her moves due to her husband’s transfers, she had various jobs. When married she was Head Cashier at Western Southern Insurance Company in Evansville, from 1967 to 1978 she was a stay-at-home mom raising their kids. In 1979 she worked for Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri and in Houston, Texas she was the manager of the Texaco Employees Federal Credit Union and added three additional offices which she managed.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; son Richard (Patty) Rinehart, Austin, TX; daughter Kelly (Steve) Teinert of Altus, Oklahoma; brother Fred (Cheryl) Vandiver of Cairo, Kentucky; and grandchildren Tristen, James, Caitlin, Norah and Zach.
Joe Ann was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Shirley Ford.
Joe Ann’s love was sewing. She was a member of the Patoka Valley Quilt Guild and headed the sewing group at Santa Claus Christian Church. Her memberships included the Santa Claus Optimist Club and she was a past member of the Garden Club.
There will be a Celebration of Life service at Santa Claus Christian Church, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the service starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Santa Claus Christian Church or Historic Santa Claus Campgrounds.
The family wants to thank all for the prayers, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff at Riverside RMC.
