A celebration of John Lee Haines’s life will be held at The Rustic in Rockport this Saturday, November 13, at 1 p.m. John met his wife Ann there at a luau almost 40 years ago.

Haines, formerly of Rockport, passed away on December 21, 2020 at his home in Orlando, Florida, surrounded by his loving family after losing his battle with cancer. Per his wishes, he wanted this celebration to be held in his hometown on the banks of the Ohio River, which he loved.

John graduated from Rockport High School in 1958 and was later a partner in H&B Customs (stands for Haines & Blythe), a local car repair and customization facility.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie K. Haines, who passed in 1982 and his father John W. Haines who passed in 1948.

John was a loving husband and father. His survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ann Carter Haines; his brother, David Haines (Dinah), of Lynnville; six children, Lee Ann Dalton of Naples, Florida, Mark Pettus (Colleen) of Havana, Florida, John D. Murphy (Kim) of Orlando, Florida, Matthew Pettus (Angela) of Coral Springs, Florida, Tim Pettus of Jacksonville, Florida, Jeremy Pettus (Josh) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
