Joseph Harold Carpenter, 81, of Rockport, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Joe was born on October 10, 1943, to Carl and Viola (Whitehouse) Carpenter.
Joe was a member of Bethel Christian Center in Reo, a member of Eureka Masonic Lodge No. 397, and had served on the Rockport City Council for 10 years.
He retired from ALCOA after 40 years of service and ran his own business for 25+ years. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, his HAM radio, was a scout leader with the Boy Scouts, and loved to travel, especially to the Smoky Mountains.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Darryl Carpenter, and his sisters, Kay Magan and Linda Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Carpenter; his sons, Michael Carpenter and his wife, Jody, and Joe Carpenter and his wife, Jan; his grandchildren, Jackson Carpenter and Summer Carpenter; his brothers, Carl Carpenter and his wife, Darlas, and Ron Carpenter and his wife, Martha; several nieces and nephews.
His wife, children, and grandchildren were Joe’s world, and he loved them dearly.
Services were held Thursday, June 19, at Reo Bethel Christian Center with Pastor Walter Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
