Joseph L. Ayer, Sr., 79, of Rockport, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Joe was born in Rockport on July 7, 1943, to the late John Edwin and Virgie Marie (Sutton) Ayer.
Joe worked for many years at the family business, Tig’s Café, when he was younger. He had honorably served in the United States Air Force and later, worked on pipelines with Teamsters Local 215. Joe was also a long-time member of Rockport American Legion Post 254.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Debra A. Horn; and his siblings, John Ayer, Sheila Gunn and Sharon Bennett.
Joe is survived by his children, Joe L. Ayer, Jr., Tom Ayer and his wife, Julie, Bobby Ayer and his wife, Amy, all of Indianapolis, and Julie Hayes and her husband, Randy, of Woodrow, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Sam, Becca, Olivia, Hannah, Anna, Will, Nick, Jeremy and Travis; seven great-grandchildren; his best friend, Don Denning; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday, February 6, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Pastor Matthew Davis officiating.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
