Judy Sweeney, 86, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. She was born in Spencer County on February 24, 1938 to Oswin and Agnes Wittman Engelbrecht. She was united in marriage on September 22, 1956 with John C. Huebschman who passed away in May, 1988. She was united in marriage with Alfred Sweeney on June 17, 2006 and he passed away on February 15, 2024.
Judy was a loving wife and mother who had worked at General Electric and retired after 32 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years and VBS for 15 years before caring for her parents. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League where she held several offices and the LWML sewing and quilting. She also was a member of Tell City Senior Citizens where she held the offices of president and treasurer.
Judy loved being with friends and family, quilting, cross-stitching, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, reading, traveling, and helping others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John C. Huebschman and Alfred Sweeney, and sisters, Jeanette Brown, Margaret Smith, and Pauline Bandy.
She is survived by her children, Jefferey (Kristina) Huebschman of Elkhart, Dr. Jon (Amy) Huebschman of Charleston, TN, Jay (Lee Ann) Huebschman of Evanston; stepdaughters, Shirley (Michael) Phelps and Vickie Sweeney, both of Owensboro, KY; sisters, Juanita Weil of Tell City, Ruth Ann VanAperen of Ft. Wayne, and Doris Schauberger of Tell City; brothers, Paul Engelbrecht of Evanston and Kenneth Lottes of Mayor, AZ; five grandchildren, Katie, Kevin, Krystal, Philip and Patrick Huebschman; five stepgrandchildren, Amber, Josh, and Jamal Sweeney and Brandon and Jason Phelps.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Steve Shank will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
