Eric Elliott, owner and operator of the Elliott Kyusho-Jitsu martial arts academy in Boonville, paid a visit to the Chrisney Library to demonstrate some basic techniques for self defense to a willing group of trainees. This is Elliott’s second visit to a local library, having conducted a similar seminar at the Spencer County Public Library in Rockport back in June.

Elliott has been training at martial arts for 30 years now, a passion driven by both recreation and practicality.

“I love it,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

The focus of his brief seminar Wednesday evening was to impart a few fundamental skills and techniques onto his temporary pupils. He emphasized that a few relatively simple exercises can allow someone to even the odds in the face of a larger aggressor, even one with malicious intent.
