A memorial service for Mary Buffington of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Dale, is planned for Saturday, September 24, at Santa Claus United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. CDT until the 10 a.m. service time.
Mary passed away in Tucson on July 21 at the age of 62. She was born in Jasper on September 12, 1969, to Edmund “Jack” and Katherine Heeke. She married Gary Buffinton on November 4, 1979, in Jasper.
She taught at Heritage Hills as a paraprofessional, volunteered, coached and directed the Spencer County Special Olympics team for many years, coached a Destination Imagination team that went to the World Games twice and was involved in Upward Bound.
Mary is survived by her husband, Gary, of Tucson, and three sisters, Carol (Larry) Zehr, Otwell, Linda Trill of Jasper and Rose (Kenny) Leisman of St. Anthony.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill Heeke; and sister, Betty Robbins.
Memorial donations for Mary Buffington may be made to Indiana Special Olympics or the Dubois County Community Food Bank in Jasper.
