Mary Lou Martin, 85, passed away June 3, 2021, at Deaconess Gateway, surrounded by family.

Mary Lou was born July 3, 1935, in Richland, to Cyrus “Rip” Winfield and Fay (Tullis) VanWinkle.

She married Tommy Martin on October 10, 1954. After Tommy served in the Army in Anchorage, Alaska, they settled in Rockport where they lived the rest of their lives. Mary Lou enjoyed a rewarding career working for Dr. Monar at the Medical Center in Rockport, and later in customer service for Lincoln Natural Gas and Sigeco.

In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Tommy Martin, who passed away February 5, 2021; siblings Harold VanWinkle (Clara), Genevieve Sayer (Bruce), Lucille “Tootie” Boyd (J.C.), Nelda Hart (Raleigh), Ellen Gayle VanWinkle, Richard “Buddy” VanWinkle, and brother-in-law Louis Parsley, Jr.

Survivors include son Tim Martin (Donna) and daughter Lisa Brown; grandchildren Tyson Martin (Whitney), Trent Martin (Alisha), Todd Martin (Lauren), Hannah Brown (Nate Isely) and Kisiah Brown (fiancé Dustin Shepherd); great-grandchildren Teagan, Talen, Reagan, Lela and Sadie, and one on the way. Also surviving is a sister, Georgie Parsley.

Funeral services for Mary Lou Martin were held Sunday, June 6, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport. Burial followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Spencer County Public Library Rockport Branch, or Trinity United Methodist Church in Rockport.
