Those who love morels or other mushrooms will have the chance to learn more about them at a Hoosier National Forest special event later this week.

A native Hoosier, Chris Matherly, will be at the Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area on the Hoosier National Forest in Perry County on October 17 and 18 for a series of free programs hosted by Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association. On Thursday, October 17, Matherly will be available to answer questions and provide tips and information to the public about all things fungi. He will also provide a mushroom cooking demonstration. Participants should plan to arrive by 5 p.m. CDT. Gate attendants will provide directions.

For those wishing to go out into the forest with Matherly to search for wild fungi, he will lead a guided hike on Friday, October 18 at 9 a.m. CDT. Participants should be dressed for the weather, wear closed toe shoes, insect repellent, and be prepared to walk off-trail.

Mushroom expert Chris Matherly will visit Hoosier National Forest this week.

The Indian-Celina Lakes Recreation Area is located on State Road 37 just south of I-64 in Perry County. There is a $5 per vehicle day use fee for the area.
