This year’s Spencer County National Night Out was held Tuesday, August 6 in the Rockport City Park. The Fraternal Order of Police and its partnering organizations in the emergency services rolled out the red carpet for the community, offering food, treats, and other goodies, as well as plenty of activities. While a life flight helicopter was unavailable this year due to other responsibilities, kids still got a chance to get up close and personal with some impressive equipment and those who operate them.
A fire truck from Ohio Township Volunteer Fire Department allowed visitors to climb into the basket, or aerial work platform, at the end of the ladder. The ladder stayed safely on the ground throughout, but still gave kids a chance to see what the machines could do. Others willing to brave the heat of the evening sun put a bounce house through its paces, while parents enjoyed music from the band, Silly Rules.
National Night Out is an annual event held on the first Tuesday in August. Spencer County joined the nationwide event in 2021, hosting its first Night Out at Honey Creek Farm. It has since become a staple of the calendar year.
National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together.
