St. Bernard Catholic School’s young thespians are winding up for the Wizard of Oz this weekend. Curtains will rise for the premier at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, followed by two showing at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and a final performance at 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8 and available at the door, or by calling 812-649-2501.
Based on the 1900 novel by L. Frank Baum and immortalized on the big screen in 1939, this classic American fairy tale is filled with wonder and a plethora of colorful characters. With nearly 30 students involved, there’s plenty of talent to bring the magical land of Oz to life on stage in the school gym.
Director Larissa Hurm said that after the success of last year’s performance of “Annie”, students were eager to take on a more daunting project. The classic story of Dorothy Gale’s tornadic journey from Kansas to Munchkinland, down the Yellow Brick Road, and back again certainly fits the bill.
“The Wizard of Oz is pretty big,” she said. “It’s a show everybody loves.”
