People’s Theater of Southern Indiana will bring its inaugural production — Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s classic musical Into the Woods — to the Lincoln Amphitheatre’s stage on Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3. The production, which is a rental and not an official Lincoln Amphitheatre offering, will be directed by Evansville native Matthew Herrmann with music direction by Laura Witte. General admission tickets are only $9.95 and can be purchased at www.LincolnAmphitheatre.com or by calling 812-937-2329.
“In this time of uncertainty, it is important to reflect back on the lessons we have learned and the truths we were taught,” said director Herrmann. “My vision for this remounted production is to combine the immense talent of the community with a beloved musical to create a memorable experience for all. We are all familiar with these fairy tales, but Into the Woods places the characters into a new world allowing the audience to look past the fantasy and discover their true meaning and morals.”
Into the Woods intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella, among others. The musical is tied together by a story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters along the way.
Tickets are still available for the upcoming Will Read and Sing for Food Amphitheatre fundraiser on Saturday, September 19, as well as a Saturday, September 26, acoustic tribute to James Taylor. For additional information or to purchase tickets, visit www.LincolnAmphitheatre.com.
All seating is limited to less than one fifth of the venue’s 1,500, fully covered, outdoor seating area. On-site hand sanitizer will be provided courtesy of Monkey Hollow Winery & Distillery and all CDC rules and recommendations will be abided. Per the Governor’s executive order, the use of face masks and face coverings will be required to enter the facility and when moving about the mezzanine area to concessions, restrooms, etc. Once in the seating area and social distance is in place, face coverings can be removed if the patron is comfortable doing so.
