Peter M. Schutzius, 66, of Evansville (formerly of Troy) unexpectedly passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024. Pete was always quick of wit, cracking jokes and one liners. He was passionate and loyal to his family, the family farm, his work, Cubs baseball, and Notre Dame football, never losing hope that this year would be the year for another National Championship.

Born in 1957, Pete grew up on a farm in Troy, with his siblings Nick, Victoria, Kevin, Mary, Charles (Chuck), Sarah and Kerry. His time on the farm honed his strong work ethic and love of Oliver tractors, recently beginning a collection of the classic tractor for the family farm.

He met his wife Lori (Wright) after moving to Evansville. They were later married on August 11, 1984, and together they had two children John Victor and Aryn Lee. While in Evansville, Pete joined the West Side Nut Club, received his degree in accounting, and went to work and become partner with Umbach and Associates CPA, now Riney Hancock CPA.

He is survived by his beloved granddaughter, Lorraine Dauby, favorite daughter-in-law Sandra (Pruett), best son-in-law Patrick Dauby, and loyal dog Kimber, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Victor, mother Letty, and sister Carolyn Ann.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City with burial at St. John’s Chrysostom Catholic Church Cemetery in New Boston.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Red Cross or favorite charity of your choice.
