Richard J. Rainwaters, 91, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021.

He was born April 18, 1930, to Lacie and Earl Rainwaters near Hot Springs, Arkansas.

One of seven children, he was in the USAF during the Korean War, stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver. He spent many years in Southern California, where he was City Councilman of Garden Grove. While in California, he worked for Hughes Aircraft Corp, moving to Germany and England and working on the first space satellite.

Until the last few weeks of his life, he still worked for Primerica Financial Service. One of Richard’s greatest joys was living on their 40-acre ranch in Parker, Colorado, enjoying horses, dogs and a large garden. He loved to make things grow. Richard was an active volunteer for ACTS in Aiken for about 16 years and a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Janice (Hufnagel) Rainwaters; son, Rick Rainwaters of Aiken, South Carolina; daughter, Robin and grandson Joseph Strehlau of Riverside, California; stepson, Brian Shirley of Denver; stepdaughter, Kerri (Doug) Foster of Colorado Springs, along with step-granddaughter, Lindsay (Peter) Yarger and their sons; brother, Edward (Betty) Rainwaters, and sister, Ruth (Royce) Burk, both of Arkansas.

Richard J. Rainwaters was interred at Greenhaven Preserve in Eastover, South Carolina.
