Rockport Elementary students made good use of the brisk weather Wednesday, October 2 to get their seventh annual walkathon in for the year. The school had originally planned the event for the previous Friday, but heavy and sustained rainfall put paid to that.
The Rockport Elementary Walkathon is a regular fundraising activity for the school’s parent-teacher organization. In addition to donations, local businesses along Main Street decorated the route and prepared games and activities to make the jaunt that much more lively. Students covered an entire two-mile loop down Main Street, past the bluffs by the river, and back to school again.
The school is also looking for sponsors for its new outdoor eating area. Specifically, the school needs tables to accommodate students. Tables cost around $1,000 each. For each $500 donation, sponsors can have the name of their business, organization, or family name included on a plaque at one of the tables. Call Principal Rick Hunt at 812-649-2201 to donate or for more information.
