Sheldon “Sonny” Ray Tharp, 77, of Rockport, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Sonny was born in Rockport on May 18, 1942, to the late Louis Edward Tharp and Glenna Faye (Parker) Tharp.
He had served in the United States Army and was a member of Rockport American Legion Post 254. He was also a member of Rockport Masonic Lodge No. 112.
Sonny made a life in law enforcement, serving as the Sheriff of Spencer County and the Chief of Police for the Rockport City Police Department. He also enjoyed playing golf.
He is survived by his aunt, Vernell Wood; cousins, John R. Tharp, Roy Tharp, Scott Wood and Jay Wood; and many friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, with Reverend Joe Greene and Pastor Brett Cieslack officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport.
Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. and from 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday morning at the funeral home.
