Ran off road

Sabin J. Kalpin was southbound on Fulda Shortcut when, he later told police, the rear end of his 2002 Nissan Altima became loose, causing him to over-correct before leaving the roadway and striking a utility pole. Kalpin and his passenger both refused EMS treatment. His Nissan was deemed a total loss in the January 11, 4:45 a.m. crash.

Accident at Chrisney Post Office

Rebecca Price, 82, of Chrisney, was pulling into the Chrisney Post Office when, she later told police, she accidentally pushed on the gas pedal instead of the brake. Her 2010 Ford Fusion struck a handrail and the post office’s after-hours drop-box. Price’s vehicle then continued onto the roadway, before coming to rest in a ditch. Price was not injured in the January 16, 8:59 a.m. accident, but damages were estimated between $10,000-25,000.

Driver arrested for OWI after rear-end collision

Daniel Tuley of Dale was southbound on Washington Street in Dale, preparing to turn onto Vine Street, when his 2007 Jeep Compass was struck from behind by a 2008 Ford Ranger driven by Joseph Gonzales, also of Dale. While investigating the crash, an officer detected the odor of alcohol when Gonzales spoke, and Gonzales allegedly admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages prior to driving. After a standardized field sobriety test determined his blood alcohol content to be 0.157, Gonzales was arrested on misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a BAC of 0.15 or more and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person. No one was injured in the January 15, 6:04 a.m. collision, and damage was estimated between $2,500-5,000.
