Ran off road
Cody E. Smith, 27, of Cannelton, was northbound on CR 100 West just south of CR 400 South near Rockport when, he later told authorities, he was reaching for his water bottle and pulled the steering wheel to the right, causing him to run off the road. He was unable to get his 2007 Jeep Liberty back onto the roadway before running into the ditch-line and then into some trees. Significant front end damage was visible along with airbag deployment. Smith said he did not need medical treatment at the scene. Damage was estimated between $2,501-$5,000 to his vehicle.
